california wildfires

I guess every on must have heard about the recent wildfires here
in California. There was a wildfire up by where my wife works and
some people from her work were evacuated and some had fire damage to there homes. The fire up there they think was arson.
We had a wildfire here in Orange County that got to about 2 miles
from our house. We were fortunate in the fact that a freeway layed
between our house and the fire. It shipped the freeway once but
the planes were able to drop water on it and put it out before it
spread. The area was covered in smoke and ash for several miles.
The firefighters did a great job. We were thankful that we did'nt
even have to evacuate. That freeway acts as a firebreak for us.
Unfortunately our local high school suffered some damage and
the kids were out of school for about a week to allow for clean up.
Even the elementary schools and junior high were out for a couple
of days because of air quality. I guess this is the time of year to
be thankful for all our blessings

wildfires

and I am not talking about the recent wall street bailout. It looks like
our wildfire season is starting here in California . We have a nasty one going on upin the San Fernando Valley. My wife works about ten miles whereone of the worst is going on. I am not sure if we have any classmates up in that area. It has been hot and dry this year and anything is possible. These things can get really destructive.

KNEE SURGERY

I HAD SOME MINOR KNEE SURGERY THIS LAST WEEK AND WHEN
THE DOCTOR GOT IN THERE IT WAS WORSE THAN HE THOUGHT(OLD
AGE CATCHING UP). HE SAID I AM GOING TO NEED A KNEE REPLACEMENT SURGERY IN THE NEXT 1 OR 2 YEARS. I HEAR SOME
GOOD THINGS ABOUT THAT KIND OF OPERATION BUT IF ANYBODY OUT
THERE HAS HAD A KNEE REPLACEMENT OR HAS SOME KNOWLEDGE
OR THE PROCEDURE I WOULD APPRECIATE ANY INFORMATION YOU
COULD GIVE ME. IT IS AMAZING WHAT THE DOCTORS CAN DO NOW
DAYS. THIS IS THE 3RD SURGERY ON THIS KNEE AND I WAS UP AND
WALKING THE NEXT DAY. UNFORTUNATELY THE DOCTOR WON'T RELEASE ME TO PLAY GOLF. I ENJOYED THE FREDRICKSBURG REUNION
BUT I THINK WE TO HOLD IT WHERE IT IS AFFORDABLE TO ALL OUR
CLASSMATES. I AM O.K. WITH WHAT EVER IS DECIDED. I PLAN TO BE
THERE NO MATTER WHAT(SHORT OF THE GRIM REAPER CALLING).

procrastinator

it has been a while since I have blogged, I forgot my password and
I have been playing with various combinations since then. We had
an earthquake out here in sunny California a couple of months ago
and it was about a 5.0 or something around there. Not real strong
but enough to catch one's attention. The best amusement ride I
was ever on was to be 7 stories up when a 6.0 earthquake hits.
What a buzz! We just got back from taking our daughters to college
in Utah. I have discovered the worst thing to do is have sisters be
roommates. What a headache! Unfortunately I was not able to see
Richard Olsen, or Mickey Mahler, both who live in the Salt Lake area.

birthday

hey Dennis is tomorow your birthday. well happy birthday and hope
you have plenty more. anybody watching the olympic swimming on
t.v. it seems Texas is well represented. I guess Texas is well representd in the track and field area also. If anybody is coming
to california(anybody notice i captilized Texas) it is hot. we are
probably going to have a nasty fire season.

Utah trip

I am heading up to Utah this next week and am hoping to see Mickey Mahler and Richard Olson. If anybody knows of a classmate that lives up in Utah let know and maybe we can have a small Jay reunion up in Utah. Hey John, how did your interview go in Waco?

Snowboarding

We just got back from snowboardiing in Utah. We were at the Canyons
resort in Park City. We actually stayed down in Provo so we could see
relatives and drove up to Park City which was only about 40 miles away. We took our 4 yr old grandson and put him in a skiing class, what a hoot watching him on skiis. He is a natural. I spent most
of the time on my face. I think I am going back to skiis instead of the
board. My daughters were really showing me up. While we were there
I got a chance to see Richard Olsen, He is doing real well. I did not
get to see Mickey Mahler as he was really busy with work. I did get
a couple of chances to talk to him on the phone and he seems to the
same old happy dude. He is always such a positive guy. Hey Anne,
I finally got a hold of Hershel via assistence from one of my daughters
through the school district. He teaches a Reagan HS. Thank you for
all your help in trying locate him for me.

UPDATE

I got an e-mail from Mickey Mahler, his son pitches for Arkansas,
although he did not get to pitch against the Aggies a couple of
weekends ago, he is pitching real well according to Mickey( a chip
off the old block). Thanks Anne for Hershel's number.

Who's in the know

Hey Dennis when is the next chat room session. I missed the last
one because I did'nt get home until after 10:00 pm. Does anyone
know where Fred Pointer is? I talked to him a couple of years ago
at the time of Randy Olsen's passing away. Haven't heard a
lick from him since. If anyone is interested, I talked to Randy's
wife Susan a couple of weeks ago and she said that the family
is doing well. I try to call every couple of months to see how they
are doing.
